Pre-Prosthetic Perio Surgery

We are pleased to announce that we are endeavouring to introduce pre-prosthetic perio surgery once again at the school starting early in the Winter Term. To facilitate this, we need your assistance to determine how many surgeries might be anticipated. Please see the attached link and complete it accordingly if you have a patient that requires pre-prostheIc perio surgery (required in order to render a tooth suitable for a crown or to be an abutment for a bridge or RPD).

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL OTHER REQUIRED PROSTHODONTIC APPROVAL DOCUMENTATION NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO PLACING YOUR PATIENT ON THIS LIST.

Demand for this service may outstrip our capacity to provide the service, and as such, outside referrals may still be required in order to meet case completion timelines. We will not be able to complete all surgeries at the school. We need to allow time for healing and ideally still have these teeth restored prior to the end of the clinical year.

Please ensure that there are not any medical, surgical, or financial contraindications to your patients having this treatment completed.

Priority will be for teeth that are presently prepared with provisional restorations already in place.

Triage for assignment to Perio surgery to be completed at the school, will be up to the discretion of the covering Periodontist and the Chair of the Division of Prosthodontics, or their designate.

Procedures will be completed by Dr. Sabharwal and students will assist on their own cases.

Fees

Code for Crown lengthening is:
42411- PERIO SURG CROWN LENGTHENING (APF with osseous contouring) $225 (originally $450)

We have reduced the fee further in an attempt to remove the financial barrier to care for our patients! This would be over $1000 in private practice if completed by a specialist.

Protocol

Surgeries will be completed during the Tuesday PM session. Ideally, there will be 2 surgeries booked per session. Students will act as the assistant for Dr. Sabharwal. Students will be responsible for cubicle set-up, take-down, gathering all required specialty instrumentation from the dispensary, cleaning and returning all required instrumentation, and completion of the appointment record.

Students will be notified by email once your case is approved for Perio surgery. You will need to complete a Perio Surgery Request form and submit it to the Admin Team similar to an OS slip. The exact details of this protocol will be forthcoming prior to Winter Term.

Thanks for your patience as we navigate the challenges in getting this operational piece up and running for our patients.
